It's Memorial Day weekend and somehow seems wrong to write anything other than words honoring those who have given their lives for the freedom and protection of others. My heart is forever grateful, and I can only imagine the pain of those who have lost a loved one who was serving bravely. How proud those families must be as well. What an incredible gift their loved ones have given us.
And the freedom I would like to say thank you for this weekend is my right to worship. To talk about my Savior, to attend church and even to write this blog about a relationship and life with Him. My relationship with God is the absolute most important part of my life and serving Him with my life is my very purpose. And here is a thought that really hits home this weekend - without the freedoms my country has allowed me, I would still be called to this relationship with my God, and it would still be my purpose to serve Him and share His love. But my very life would be at stake to live out this purpose. It's happening to amazingly brave Christians all around the world right now. And of course persecution has happened elsewhere for years.
Would I be brave enough, strong enough, and loyal enough to live out my faith? Because of the freedoms that someone else fought to give me, I have not had to know the answer to those question in the real world, only in my heart. My heart says yes, I would give my very life for my Lord. But I do not take lightly the fact that I have not had to face that very real fear.
However, I have to say that this beautiful freedom of a right to worship seems to be growing more and more fragile each day. While I try not to be overly political with anything I post, anyone who looks honestly at the state of our world can see that America is changing. "One nation UNDER God" seems to quickly be becoming a nation that wants to now be god.
This post isn't making a statement about any individuals choice or decision, if you have not yet met my God, then you don't hold His values as dear to you as I do, and I understand that. It's about relationship, and if you don't know Him or how great it is to walk through life with Him, you obviously aren't going to choose his direction. I hope you do get to know Him and see that His plans for you are great and fall in love with him as I have.
But what this post is about is being thankful that someone, in our history, did know Him, and knew how important it was to protect our right to serve Him, even at the cost of death. And this post is about being hopeful, that that right is protected for many more generations to come, by many more courageous young men and women, who have come to know Him and know how important that freedom is.
